Whilst maintaining the ideals of the E.D.E.N. project we wish to include the people around the church in this project as well as those who attend the church so building up relationships as we work together. The initial letters ECG remind us of heart problems and so the project is intended to help with health through exercise and spiritual and mental health through community and relationship.
Developing the grounds of the church will enable us to show care and concern for nature in an urban setting and help us to be more aware of our need to care for creation as God intended. The project also will provide a place for all to come and learn to grow, share knowledge and find an identity within this community.
Currently, we have started to develop some vegetable planters near the schoolroom end of the church on SPAN, we also have a yard where cuttings are grown and water gardens developed. We intend to provide a sensory space, a small meadow to encourage bees and butterflies to thrive and hedgehogs to shelter.
Overall, we hope to be self-sufficient and use waste materials to provide planters and bird feeders, for example. Finally, we want to use the project to develop relationships within our church, local community and with God.
It is intended to run various open sessions for people to drop in and help in any way they can including children friendly times which will link to our youth work. We may be able to make homemade soup from our vegetables or jams and pickles. There is much we can hope for.
