Welcome to prayer focus
Prayer Focus is a monthly series to help new and existing Christians grow in their faith through prayer
Songs
This idea is taking a theme and using it to build up a prayer style. It is very much like the first idea of JOY. Looking at our relationship with Jesus, others and ourselves.
Currently, I’m enjoying growing stuff and have a small greenhouse and am pleased with my little chillies, tomatoes and herbs. I’m especially excited about the marrow. Am I, however, pleased with my prayer life and excited by it? I don’t think so as I certainly don’t put enough time and effort in. Do I show all these qualities? Again, the answer is no, and I expect it’s the same for everyone so if we take a little time out over these next two months to pray through these spiritual fruits we may begin to show signs of growth and maturity in this area of our Christian walk with God.
The pattern will be to use the fruit to consider and pray through various situations in your personal and church life that call for that gift.
#For example, Love:
- Prayer to be more loving and tolerant to close family members try and stand in their shoes and see things from a different perspective.
- Pray for those you find hard to love in the church, the neighbourhood and work.
- Pray for a deeper understanding of God’s love by considering the given verse and then if you have time look for more verses on this topic.
- Pray to love the downtrodden and destitute or maybe the outsiders who pop into church every now and then.
- Pray to be more loving of yourself and give yourself space.
Use this idea with each fruit and listen to the reflective song.
Each week there is a song covering different styles, bare with them and reflect that others like that style as it will help you be patient with others points of view. Read the verse and think it through and then work through it.
4th July: Proverbs 21v21 | Kindness to others, ourselves and consider God’s kindness to us
11th July: 1 John 4 v 7 | Love (as above)
18th July: Proverbs 17 v 22 | Joy in our lives and how can we bring joy to others and God.
25th July: Philippians 4 v 7 | Peace in relationships and in your own life
1st Aug: Psalm 37 v 27 | Goodness to others, from God to us.
8th Aug: Proverbs 28 v 20 | Faithfulness in all relationships and with God consider how faithful He is to us
15th Aug: Ephesians 4 v 2 | Gentleness in everything we do
22nd Aug: Ecclesiastes 7 v 8 | Patience with ourselves and our family. Patience is easier to find if we stop to think before we act
29th Aug: Proverbs 16 v 32 | Self-control, look at areas that need this gift in your life. Finding stillness with God is key to self-control
Again, I would urge you to journal and write down as you find God speaking to you. Write down people and situations to pray into.
Use the fruit below as a craft stimulus; print it out and cut that week’s fruit then write around it your needs and prayers. Eat the fruit and indulge in its flavour before doing the same as you pray. Take in what God gives you.
