Songs
Using a particular Bible passage or one of the Psalms can be a helpful way to focus our prayer.
In June we are looking at Psalm 100. A Psalm of joy, praise and thanksgiving. We are slowly coming out of lockdown and there is much to be thankful for. Many will have lost people we love and care for but this month we will focus on the goodness of God to us as an individual. Remember prayer life is both private and corporate.
Read the Psalm through a couple of times.
Note down the important words: joy, worship, gladness, thanksgiving, praise, love and faithfulness.
It can be hard to feel joyful and full of gladness at times as life’s sad events take over, but God is faithful he will hold us in these moments. Never give up on his amazing love.
We know as parents that if our own children are sad or hurt, we too are sad for them, and we try to help and just be there for them. Imagine God like the loving parent and then run to him for comfort.
The joy of the Lord is my strength and at times it is only our faith that holds us together. At other times we feel free and running with joy in God. Our relationship with God isn’t always the same God’s love stays constant while we ride the roller coaster of life. Sometimes we wander off a bit, but this Psalm reminds us that we should praise and worship and thank God for his love for us and so by dwelling on it this month we should become closer and more aware of God’s daily presence in our lives.
Each week read the Psalm aloud emphasising different words or phrases.
I would also suggest writing verses out each week maybe illustrating them. Make some cards with these words on and stick them around your bedroom.
Listen to the music and run to God with your praise this month.
